Omega (Sadly No Alpha)

Now then, Omega, as seen in The Three Doctors and Arc Of Infinity, is a really interesting villain.

This is him here with Sergeant Benton and the second and third Doctors. He’s the one on the let that looks like The Man With The Stick from Vic Reeves Big Night Out.

Omega

Omega was an outstanding stellar engineer and High Council member on Gallifrey. He developed the Hand of Omega, a remote stellar manipulator which could be used to control the reactions within a star.

Using the Hand of Omega he performed adjustments on a star near Gallifrey’s, in an attempt to provide a power source for the time travel experiments he conducted with Rassilon.

Unfortunately it was thought that Omega was killed in the resulting supernova, which then collapsed into a black hole. However, all of this malarky eventually resulted in the Time Lords being able to zip back and forth through time.

Neat, huh?

Of course for such sacrifice comes, well, more sacrifice. In this case it was a bit of lunacy and a touch of bitterness…

Now is just me or does the sound of a returning Omega seem just the thing to spice up Matt Smith’s presidency?

  • Long pub conversation tonight about Doctor Who. Among the things we decided should be done are:

    • TARDIS materialises in what looks like a stock classic era gravel pit. Oh, you think, a tribute to the classic series. But no! I turns out to actually be a gravel pit somewhere near Chorley.
    • Meeting characters at different points in their time-lines. Ok, so we meet a guy with an eye patch who does’nt like The Doctor much. In three weeks time we meet him again, as his younger self without the patch, and learn that The Doctor cost him his eye.
    • Less Londiff/Cardon. Oh come on, with the whole of space and time to play with, why keep returning to contemporary earth?
    • Bring back The Doctor Donna. Even though I hate the Tate woman as a commediene, she was bloody good as an assistant.
    • The Valeyard. The Thirteen-and-a-half Doctor needs to be re-introduced.
  • You need to look to The Sarah Connor Chronicles to really see how some good paradoxical story lines can be woven around the time travel conceit. Seriously, it’s fucking mind-blowing.

It would also be nice to see an animated or CG version of The Eleven Doctors, a good story line could come from that. I really enjoyed Infinite Quest and thought it worked really well.

Imagine it, voice actors, or where possible the original actors voicing animated versions of themselves at their peak. That would work wouldn’t it?

Also why don’t we get a new movie that’s on a separate time line (Star Trek style) and have it act as a reboot for the franchise?

Oh and let’s get another assistant in a kilt in there, yeah?

  • wow.. i’m very enjoy reading your post. great.

  • I said:

So now look at the River Song character. This is what is happening now (minus the eyepatch, obviously).
