Is Doctor Who Dire?

Perhaps I’ve been a little bit hasty in calling this site Doctor Who Is Dire. Given that I’m a fan of Doctor Who in principle and that I don’t really hate it.

Mayhap I should just have called it New Doctor Who Is Dire? Even that would be a little misleading as some of the new episodes have been rather good. Hmmm?

I suppose if I’m honest it should really have been called Russell T Davies Is The Worst Writer Of Sci-Fi In The World, not quite so easy to remember though is it?

  • Dear Jon,

You are not alone. I am life long fan, I think the concept of Doctor Who, a regenerating alien wanderer, is one of the greatest ideas in the history of BBC SF. I feel compelled to watch the New Who even though it feels like watching a train crashing in slow motion over a series of years, horrible but i cant look away.

I can’t stand how a noble, pacifist alien has been turned into Rambo from Gallifrey, ‘He’s back … for Rassilon.’ And what the hell is that phallic thing he pulls from his trousers whenever a tense and interesting moment requires a quick solution before character development and tight plotting is needed? It has a head which glows blue, is it from Anne Summers? Here’s hoping that Moffat and that child actor will put the show back on form… here’s hoping.

    Best Wishes,

    Cujo

  • Cujo? The Stephen King dog?

That aside, you’re right, the whole sonic screwdriver thing is a bit too convenient most of the time (along with his psychic paper, oh do fuck off).

    Hmmm, I feel a rant coming on…
